The Spirit of The San Francisco Marathon Part I

Posted in Marathons, Photo Essay, Running, San Francisco, Toky Photography by tokyphotography on July 27, 2010

Backstory:

I’ve completed three Los Angeles Marathons and one Nike Human Race. On my last LA Marathon back in March, I decided to take my camera with me and do a photo essay (see that post here). I posted it on my blog and tweeted about¬† it. Over the next few days my photo essay was seen by more than 6,000+ people (the Marathon had 26,000 runners) and was re-tweeted over and over again.¬†The best part of it all was all the comments that people posted as replies to my photo essay as well as all the emails I received from runners that were grateful someone had done this for them as they could use it to show their families and friends what it was like on the course. It also helped me realize we all tend to have the same thoughts as we are running.

Since then I’ve wanted to go run different marathons across the USA and document the spirit of each city. Thanks from a little help from the organizers of the race, I present you: The Spirit of The San Francisco Marathon Part I (“Getting There”).

My flight was delayed 1:30 hrs because of "fog" in San Francisco.... Once we landed I could see what they meant.

San Francisco Marathon… this Sunday.

Posted in If life gives you lemons, Photo Essay, Toky Photography by tokyphotography on July 23, 2010

Make sure you stop by the blog this Sunday/Monday for a full report & photo essay from San Francisco. I’m doing another photo essay like the one I did back in March for the LA Marathon (check that one out here).

Thanks to the lovely folks at the SF Marathon for this opportunity.

In the meantime here’s a little collage of pics from the LA Marathon.

New Images @ Wonderful Machine

Probably the regular folk wont understand this, but as a photographer is always very interesting to see what other people choose as images representative of your work. I blogged about what images Wonderful Machine (my agency) picked to send on a mailer promoting my work recently. Now the images that represent each of my specialties on their website have been changed. No one asks you, they just do it… but that’s the best part because they are being chosen by experts who a) know what they are doing and b) have no “emotional connections” (lol) to the imagery. Anyways, totally random, but this are my new images at Wonderful Machine and… I gotta say I -love- their selections. And if those images represent how people see my work, I’m happy and I feel that who I am as an artist is getting through. And that is pretty priceless.

New Music Video

Posted in Behind the scenes, If life gives you lemons, music, New Work, Peeps, video by tokyphotography on July 1, 2010

I am hard at work editing the second music video I’ve directed. This is a totally different project than my first one (Celia, by James Bowers). I’m editing it slowly so it will be a few weeks before it’s done…. but in the meantime here are a few teaser images of “Forever” by the lovely Piper Hinson.

A big thanks to the peeps over at Fashion Served who have featured “Sometimes Catastrophes Become Trophies” and now two weeks later the images I did featuring Artstring. If you get a chance stop by their site and take a look at the creativity of what other folks are doing out there. Fashion Served is a neat website that selects the best fashion work featured on the Behance network and features it on their site.

My dear Jotdog’s have re-released their debut CD. I got to photograph them on the 1st edition of the album and that was one of my favorite gigs ever. They saw “Sometimes Catastophes Become Trophies” and asked me to recreate that concept for the album art & packaging for their CD. Their website also featured the photos and illustrations (by the incredible Steve Curcuru). I am happy to know they have been so successful they have re-released the album with bonus materials. My little jotdog’s all grown up…. One last time:

I have so many new images to post, I’m a little overwhelmed and don’t know where to start. I need to do a web-update, which will be more like a new website.

Here’s one of my new images. More to come:
