Check out these screen-grabs from the new MarcoSquared.com website. Marco is one of the most talented designers I know and though he mostly designs for women he has created a new line of underwear for men. You will soon be able to purchase these, but in the meantime there is a very cool slide-show teaser of what’s to come on his website.

For those of you who don’t know, Marco is the man behind the wardrobe on the shoots I’ve done with Syesha Mercado (like this one)

New Works Part II.

I’ve been working a lot with the awesome guys from BaskitWear for the last few months. Mostly shooting product and look book images which are always very simple and to the point. Recently they asked me to photograph their new ads/promo images in a creative setting. The basic idea was a rock-climbing trip. In came by buddy Jake who is a rock climber … and after a lot of planning … I did a great shoot with them. Just like my We Are All Smith look book shoot, I realize how much I enjoyed shooting “stories” that when seen together there is a visual thread but also each image can stand on its own as a single shot. Here’s a sneak peek of one of the shots that’s on the Baskit website now. More to come….

Sometimes you shoot stuff for magazines or clients that is just a ‘job’ or you don’t particularly love the shot they selected, but in this case non of those things apply as I -LOVE- this shot, so I couldn’t be happier that a bunch of people get to see an ad with a photo I took, that I happen to be really proud of. I realize my blogging has not been as active as earlier…. I am kindarealbusy preparing a new venture that I will be able to share really soon… but in the meantime, here are some updates!

Sept 2010 Issue

Check out the Sept 2010 Issue of California Homes Magazine for a new Toky Photography tearsheet. Featuring the awesome work of Brandon Morrison of whyrHymer. I’ve know Brandon for many years and have photographed his Furniture & Lamps for a long time. His eye for detail in his furniture photos has influenced my still life and product photography and has helped me work with other designers (in different disciplines) with a better understanding of what they (designers) are after when their 3D creations/pieces need to become 2D digital images for promotions, websites, line-sheets, etc…

Aside from that, I’ve collaborated with Brandon extensively in other projects, such as the Music Videos we’ve been directing recently. Also, you might recognize him as “The Furniture Maker” from my photo series of that name. Make sure you pick up a copy of the magazine and read the article.

New Website, New Marathon Photo Essay, New Music Video!

-Check out my new website!

I was in the mood for something simpler, cleaner, easier to navigate and load. I -loved- my old website, but this new one navigates much better and it’s better organized. Please check it out.

-On the new site, check out my new work. There are new images in almost every section: Advertising, Beauty, Editorial, Fashion & Music. Also a new series: En Noir et Blanc. (love love love… hope you will too)

-On the new site as well, check out the new music video! (you can also see it on my Vimeo or Youtube)

-Last but not least, for all my running buddies and readers… I’m gearing up for my next Marathon/Photo Essay: October 17th in Long Beach! Cannot. Wait. So. Excited. I’m trying to make it to Chicago as well on October 10. But depends on $. We shall see.

-The Long Beach Marathon photo essay will be posted at the Spirit of the Marathon Photo Essay website on October 19th. I have lots of goodies planned for that photo essay, so stay tuned.

Ready to Wear!

Something I’ve been working on for a few months since I showed my work at Unique LA earlier this year…. a collaboration t-shirt line with New Clothing Wear that features my photographs!

New Clothing Wear in Collaboration with Toky Photography T-Shirt.

I met Kyle who designs the T-Shirts for New Clothing Wear at the Unique LA show a few months back. I was showing my “Against Nature” Cyanotypes and decided to go around and see what the other artists/vendors had to show before the doors opened. I saw Kyle at his booth with -THE- softest t-shirts I have ever touched in my entire life… we chatted for a bit and exchanged information. Then a few months later we got in touch and since my “Against Nature” series is printed on fabric, the ball started rolling about printing other photos of mine on fabric, particularly t-shirts… and… as they say, they rest is history.

Out first t-shirt features a film strip (actual 35mm black and white film if you were wondering) that I took a long time ago.

The t-shirt is Unisex and is available in both white and gray and can be purchased at the New Clothing Wear online store. Trust me, this t-shirt is soooo soft. It’s made of Kyle’s custom made fabric of 50% modal, 45% cotton and 5% spandex. Those of you who know about fabrics can already imagine the softness. I suggest XS, S and M for the ladies and L and XL for the dudes.

This is my first collaboration with Kyle and New Clothing Wear. We have another 2 t-shirts coming out soon… and… I have yet another fashion surprise I’m working on right now that will be out later this year

For now, check out our t-shirts and buy one. It’s a limited run and they will not be available for long.

Thank you to everyone who has visited, commented and e-mailed me about the Spirit of the San Francisco Marathon Photo essays!

I am very grateful to all of you and excited to announce that because of the huge success that project has been, I am starting a website dedicated exclusively to the photo essays as well as other running goodies. Not only that, I’m already in touch with other marathons to create other photo essays documenting different races around the country.

I love ALL your comments! Including comments made directly to me by three (!!!) different friends who asked me: “were you talking about me when you said that everyone gives excuses not to run a marathon?”… so for the record, I wasn’t talking about anyone in particular. The essays are full of “inside jokes” for runners, and we -all- hear those comments, and those are like the TOP comments that we all hear. So… anyways, I thought that was amusing… the more I do this the more I realize we runners are crazy people. Regular folk don’t need to run if they don’t want to to each their own

Anyhow, I am hard at work on the marathon photo website. In the meantime, here are what some Facebook folks had to say about the photos over at the San Francisco Marathon Facebook page.
